The National Bank of Anguilla Ltd. today announced the
results of its 4th Annual Peter Perkins Memorial Boat Race
and Fun Day Village Games. The event took place at Sandy
Ground Beach on Sunday July 20th, 2008. The Games started
approximately 1:30pm with 7 participating teams spanning
across the various villages on the Island. Each team
represented one of the Bank’s products or services:
- South Hill, Sandy Ground and North Hill represented
the NBA Credit Card
- Blowing Point represented NBA Loans
- The Farrington, George Hill, The Quarter and
environs represented NBA’s Telebanking
- Island Harbor represented NBA Investment Services
- East End represented NBA Cheque Card
- The Valley represented NBA Foreign Services
- Stoney Ground and Little Dix represented NBA’s
Internet Banking
Events included: Piggy Back Race, Egg & Spoon Race, Sack
Race, Volleyball, Tug of War and many others. Many
spectators flocked the beach to support their village of
choice.
The defending champions, Stoney Ground emerged victorious
once again, making this the third time in a row winning
NBA’s Village Games. Coming in with a close second was the
Blowing Point team, followed by the team comprising of the
Farrington, George Hill, Rey Hill and environs coming in
third. The Island Harbor team came in 4th position.
At approximately 2:45 pm, there was a slight intermission
for the start of the Boat Race, where some 13 boats
participated for the coveted Peter Perkins Trophy. The Miss
Anguilla, De Stinger, De Tree, Light & Peace, UFO, NWO,
Sonic, Superstar, Real Deal, Satellite, De Chan, Eagle and
the Bluebird.
The boats sailed from Sandy Ground to Blowing Point and
back. Keeping the lead from beginning to end was the Real
Deal who emerged champions this year. The Sonic, last year’s
champions came in 2nd, followed closely by the Superstar in
3rd. De Tree came in 4th with the UFO coming in 5th.
The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of National
Bank through this medium expresses gratitude to everyone who
participated and made this event another successful one.
