International Merchandise Trade Statistics summary data from
the Government of Anguilla for the months of April, May and
June 2008, continued to show increases in the balance of
trade deficit when compared to the same period last year.
The amount spent on imports continued to increase with
the exception of April, when exports decreased.
In all cases the deficit each month increased significantly
over the same month in 07, reflecting a familiar trend. The
largest category in imports was consistently Consumption
Goods, with a percentage value of 52%, 54% and 64% of
imports for each of the three months respectively in 08. For
these months, the imports totaled to EC$77.1 million,
EC$56.0 million and EC$63.7 million with corresponding
export totals of EC$3.1 million, EC$922 thousand and EC$581
thousand. The charts below illustrate the mirrored
relationship between the imports and deficit as a result of
very little comparative exports.
