The 2008 carnival week ended on a violent note with the
stabbing death of a Jamaican national during the Last Lap
street jam on Saturday August 09. The young man,
19-year-old Orlando Andre Johnson, was stabbed on Saturday
and died as a result of his injuries on Sunday.
According to persons taking part in the street jam, a fight
broke out between groups of young men which resulted in
injuries to several persons including the deceased. Further
details are expected to emerge during the week from police.
Staff at
www.anguillanews.com were directed to a website bearing
what was reported to us as the picture of the young man.
Clearly visible in several of the images on the site (not
shown below) were gestures and other references to the
"blood (bloodz)" affiliation which is a growing
concern on the island. We however do not have any
information to confirm that he was a member of any gang on
Anguilla.
