Flag Luxury Properties Anguilla (FLPA) issued a statement on
Monday which reads as follows:"The project’s
Sponsors remain committed to the project.
We are temporarily suspending certain on-site activities. We
are taking this opportunity to diligently work with our
stakeholders during this short break to enhance certain
elements within the project.
We are confident we will maintain our resort’s opening
schedule."
FPLA has terminated in excess of 60 local and
regional employees in recent months and in late July
attempted to temporarily layoff local contractors
affecting as many as 70 additional workers. This move
precipitated a letter from the Government, which among other
things insisted that Anguilllians were to be the last group
of employees asked to cease work and also asked for the
repatriation of foreign workers (predominantly Chinese) if
all work on the property were to cease.
