Cable &
Wireless committed to the Caribbean - Says CEO
Date Posted: August 13, 2008.
Cable
& Wireless Caribbean is set to invest more than US$400
million in telecommunications development over the next
three years, says the company’s Chief Executive Officer for
the region Richard Dodd.
Noting that the company’s transformation programme,
officially launched in May, is progressing well, CEO Richard
Dodd said the regional business with a 120-year-old legacy,
is repositioning itself for a new era of competition and
world-class customer service delivery.
“Cable & Wireless has been a staple in the Caribbean for
more than 100 years and the company intends to be around
long into the future to bring our customers the superior
brand of telecommunications products and services that has
helped to put the Caribbean ahead of many countries in
telecommunications infrastructure,” he said.
While acknowledging that service has not always been
consistent and has not always met customers’ increasingly
demanding expectations, the Caribbean CEO said the company
has a lot to be proud of as it continues to deliver a
profitable and sustainable business.
Dodd added. “It also gives us a sense of pride that we have
contributed to building superior, resilient networks that
keep the people of this region in touch with the world. Our
sense of pride also extends to the areas which we have
supported throughout the region as part of our social
responsibility, including education and culture, sport and
community activities.”
However, he added, the business will not only rely on its
history, but intends to build on its legacy to benefit
customers, colleagues and the larger region.
“Our customers, colleagues and other stakeholders have told
us that we need to do many things differently to deliver a
vastly superior service. We have listened and many changes
can be expected as we continue to develop new services and
as we continue our work in the communities of the Caribbean
and on the training and development of our employees.”
One area of development will be the introduction of 3G
platforms which will offer customers superior capabilities,
capacity and speed. This enhanced network will roll out
first in Jamaica.
“This is only one area of our new investment and commitment
to the region. But as we progress with our transformation
programme, our customers will see further tangible benefits
from doing business with us,” he said.
