Press Release - AAVAThe Anguilla Amateur Volleyball
Association (AAVA), in its attempts to rejuvenate the sport
of volleyball in Anguilla, would like to express its sincere
gratitude to Mr.Alkins Rogers and the Sports Department of
Anguilla. The initiatives to rejuvenate the sport were first
taken by the Sports Department who has encouraged the AAVA
with its pledged commitment to lend support to the
association in any way possible.
In 2007, a volleyball camp for the youths of Anguilla was
hosted by the Sports Department and facilitated by Mr. Dale
Turner and assisted by Mr. Ian Connor, Mrs. Heather
Richardson and Ms. Connie Smith. In 2008 the summer
volleyball program was again hosted by the Department and
facilitated by two local FIVB level 1, Volleyball coaches
trained to help the volleyball program through the kind
auspices of the Sports Department.
At the recently completed OECS male volleyball tournament
held in St.Kitts from August 14-18th 2008, the Anguilla
contingent's presence was again as a result of the kind
sponsorship of the Sports Department. They ensured that the
team was present, registered and taken care of by providing
the funds for the travel, accommodations and registration
fees. While some may see it as the duty of the Sports
Department, The AAVA would like to publicly acknowledge and
thank the Sports Department for the support they have given
in the past and the continued support for the future. The
AAVA salutes the Sports Department as an unsung hero in the
development of sports on Anguilla.
The AAVA would like to reiterate their sincere thanks to the
sponsorship of Cable and Wireless for providing the team
with sport backpacks and water bottles and also to
Mr.Vanburn Brookes for the team uniforms. Mr. Brookes, a
young, local architect was first introduced to the sport of
volleyball during this year's annual Business Volleyball
Tournament which is sponsored by the Anguilla Development
Board and Cable and Wireless is an ongoing sponsor for
sporting activities throughout the island.
The presence of Anguilla at the OECS Male Volleyball
Tournament would not have been possible without the
partnership of all these sponsors and the AAVA is once again
expressing their sincere gratitude to them
