Like lightning, Usain Bolt (21 years) literally
cruised to victory in the 100m sprint in Beijing on Saturday
August 16, smashing the Olympic (9.84s)and world records
(9.72s) with a time of 9.69s. Most impressive and perplexing
about the victory was the fact that Bolt, turned off his
sprint with over 10m remaining and still defeated second
place by 0.2 seconds, suggesting the world record could be
lowered significantly in months to come and his competitors
are far behind. Bolt's victory represents the first gold
ever for Jamaica in this event at the Olympics.
Richard Thompson of Trinidad & Tobago won the silver medal
in 9.89s and Walter Dix of the USA won the Bronze in 9.91s.
In addition to Gold and Silver the Caribbean also
captured 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, in the 100m final.
