Gustav kills 22 in Hispaniola; 14 in Haiti and 8 in DR.

Date Posted: August 27, 2008.

Tropical Storm Gustav has killed at least 22 people in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Reports on Wednesday said that 14 persons were killed in Haiti and 8 -including 6 children, were killed by mudslides in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic.

The storm very slowly made its way out to sea from the Southwest Peninsula of  Haiti on Wednesday after being downgraded from a Hurricane overnight. The National Hurricane Center in Miami is currently projecting that Gustav will re-intensify as it traverses a proposed path between Jamaica and Cuba, heading towards the northern Cayman Islands and Western Cuba before entering the Gulf of Mexico. All three locations  are within the cone of error for the potential 1-3 day track area.

Due to the unpredictable nature of the storms the exact path and intensity are subject to significant errors but forecasts show significant intensification is expected.

The current project path is below and updates can be obtained from http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/
